Alpaca wool against blisters

Pure alpaca wool – also known as anti-pressure wool, walking wool or Four Days Marches wool – helps reduce friction and pressure so you are less likely to get blisters. Our wool comes entirely from our own alpacas in Malden and is completely lanolin-free.

The wool of alpacas

Alpacas are shorn once a year (between April and June). Alpaca wool is wonderfully soft, naturally lightweight and water-repellent, and it has thermoregulating properties.

Alpaca wool is free of lanolin, which makes it suitable for people with a wool-grease allergy. It is many times finer and softer than sheep’s wool, and it can be used dry (without washing).

Against blisters and pressure sores

Anti-pressure alpaca wool

Many walkers suffer from foot problems such as (developing) blisters, sore heels and chafing. Alpaca wool can lend a helping hand – or foot – by reducing friction and pressure on that spot.

Because the soft wool absorbs friction and pressure, many people also use it on other sensitive or rubbing spots on the feet and body. It is a natural comfort aid, not a medicine.

How to use alpaca wool as an anti-pressure remedy

Place a tuft of wool on the sore spot

Place a tuft of alpaca wool directly on the sore spot.

Put a sock over it

Simply pull a sock on over the wool.

The wool clings and stays in place

The alpaca wool clings to your sock and does not shift. This relieves the pressure and reduces the discomfort.

Alpaca wool is a 100% natural product and may contain traces of sand or straw.

Why buy from us

Alpaca wool from our own herd

Much anti-pressure wool and walking wool at the chemist or in a webshop is sheep's wool, or comes in an anonymous pack without you knowing where it is from. Our alpaca wool is different: it comes entirely from our own alpacas in Malden, with no middlemen.

Our animals are shorn once a year (between April and June). We sort and prepare the softest wool by hand into pure, lanolin-free tufts. That way you know exactly what you put in your sock, and you support a small, local alpaca farm at the same time. Read more about the journey from our herd to your bag.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about alpaca wool

What is anti-pressure wool or walking wool?

Anti-pressure wool, walking wool and Four Days Marches wool are all names for a tuft of natural wool that you place on a sensitive spot. The wool absorbs friction and pressure, so you are less likely to get blisters and chafing while you walk. Our anti-pressure wool is 100% alpaca wool.

Why is lanolin-free wool an advantage?

Alpaca wool is naturally free of lanolin (wool grease). That makes it suitable for people with a wool-grease allergy, and it feels clean and dry. You can use the wool straight away, without washing.

How is it different from sheep's wool and ordinary anti-pressure wool?

Alpaca wool is many times finer and softer than sheep's wool and contains no lanolin. It is also naturally lightweight, water-repellent and thermoregulating. Much anti-pressure wool at the chemist is sheep's wool; ours is pure alpaca wool from our own animals.

Why buy alpaca wool from your own herd?

Our wool comes directly from our own alpacas in Malden, with no middlemen. You know exactly where it comes from and you support a small, local alpaca farm instead of an anonymous pack from a large webshop.

Where can I buy the alpaca wool?

You can order the wool online in our shop all year round, in bags of 10, 20 or 40 grams. During the Nijmegen Four Days Marches in July we also have a stand along the route where you can buy a bag from us.
